"RCB Legend Backs Virat Kohli: 'Still the Best Player' Despite Lean Patch"

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener and cricket legend Chris Gayle has thrown his support behind ex-RCB teammate Virat Kohli, asserting that he remains the best player in the world despite his recent struggles.

Acknowledging Kohli’s dip in form, Gayle remains confident that the Indian batting maestro will bounce back soon.

“He is still the best player in the world regardless of form. The stats prove that—just look at the number of centuries he has scored across formats,”

Gayle told The Indian Express.

The West Indian great admitted that Kohli was facing a challenging phase but emphasized that such rough patches are part of every cricketer’s journey.

“It’s just one of those things we cricketers go through. Yes, it’s coming at the latter stage of his career, but these things happen. He just needs to pick himself up and come back strong,”

he added.

Gayle Predicts Kohli Will Break His Champions Trophy Record

Chris Gayle currently holds the record for the most runs in Champions Trophy history, having amassed 791 runs from 17 matches at an impressive average of 52.73, with three centuries and a half-century.

Virat Kohli, with 529 runs in 13 games, needs 263 more to surpass Gayle and become the tournament’s leading run-scorer. The ‘Universe Boss’ is confident that Kohli will break his record in the upcoming edition.

“It’s easy for him to get 200 runs. I don’t know how many games they will play, but I’m sure he will get over 200 runs—and even score a century for sure. It’s only a matter of time before he overtakes my record,”

Gayle concluded.
