RCB Get Major Playoff Boost as Phil Salt Set to Return This Week

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are set for a significant playoff boost in the 2026 Indian Premier League, with England opener Phil Salt expected to return to India later this week after recovering from a finger injury.

Salt picked up the injury while attempting to stop a boundary during RCB’s clash against Delhi Capitals on April 18 and has been sidelined since then. Following the setback, the right-handed batter returned to England to recover and spend time with his family, but is now ready to rejoin the squad for the crucial final phase of the tournament.

Before his injury, Salt was in strong form for RCB, scoring 202 runs in six matches at an impressive strike rate of 168.33, including two half-centuries. One of his standout performances came against Delhi Capitals, where he scored 63 runs in the same match he sustained the injury.

Despite Salt’s absence in seven matches, RCB have already sealed a spot in the playoffs and are in a strong position to finish in the top two, which would give them two chances to reach the final in Ahmedabad on May 31.

In his absence, RCB promoted England teammate Jacob Bethell to open alongside Virat Kohli. However, the left-hander has struggled at the top, managing just 96 runs from seven innings at an average of 13.71 and a strike rate below 125.

Reports suggest Salt is likely to walk straight back into the playing XI once available, potentially replacing Bethell. However, sources indicate he may not feature in the final league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad as a precaution ahead of the playoffs.

Meanwhile, RCB captain Rajat Patidar, who missed the previous match against Punjab Kings, is also expected to return against SRH—providing another timely boost for the defending champions as they aim to become only the third team in IPL history to successfully defend their title, after Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
