Rangpur Riders’ Abu Hider Rony Shines with Record-breaking Spell in BPL’s Second Match

Rony bowled exceptionally well in a BPL match against Barishal, taking five wickets for just 12 runs in four overs. This performance set a new record for the best bowling figures by a local bowler in BPL history. His outstanding bowling played a crucial role in his team’s one-wicket victory in Chattogram. Rony was thrilled to break the record previously held by his teammate Shakib Al Hasan, who had figures of 6-16.

I wasn’t aware of that record. It feels amazing, praise be to God. Achieving a five-wicket haul is always a significant moment for a bowler. Yesterday was a special day for me,” Rony expressed during the post-match press conference.

Rony played his second match of the season, having previously faced the Sylhet Strikers. In that match, he bowled only one over, conceding six runs. After a prolonged wait, Rony was pleased that his behind-the-scenes hard work finally paid off yesterday.

Sitting out of the XI is never fun. It always plays in the back of your mind. I tried to do well in the practice so that the management feels they can keep their faith in me. I kept trying, and they eventually responded positively.”

Rony mentioned that the pitches in domestic cricket have changed over the past few years, leading to the rise of talented fast bowlers in Bangladesh recently.

The wickets have gotten much better in the two-three years. Earlier, the wickets used to be really flat. Now we get many grassy pitches. Now more quick bowlers are emerging. When you help the bowlers, they will also come through for you.”
