The right-handed batter was forced to retire hurt during the second ODI and will now be sidelined from international cricket for several weeks.

According to an official update from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), Rahmat has sustained a high-grade tear in his left calf and will require an extended rehabilitation process. The ACB’s medical team is consulting with overseas specialists to ensure the best possible treatment and recovery.

Rahmat Shah’s absence will be a significant blow for Afghanistan, as he has been one of their most consistent performers in both ODIs and Test cricket. He scored a half-century in the first ODI of the series against Bangladesh and was in fine form in domestic cricket, notching up four fifties and a century in six matches.

With a Test average of 46.19, Rahmat’s experience will be missed when Afghanistan face Zimbabwe in the one-off Test on October 20. Meanwhile, the third ODI against Bangladesh is scheduled for October 14, and the ACB is yet to announce a replacement.

Fortunately for Afghanistan, they will not be playing any ODIs in the coming month, giving Rahmat sufficient time to recover ahead of their next assignment.

Afghanistan have already sealed the ODI series against Bangladesh with two dominant wins, showcasing strong performances, especially from their bowling unit, marking an impressive comeback after setbacks in the T20I series and Asia Cup.
