Pratika Rawal Becomes Fastest Woman to 500 ODI Runs, Breaking 27-Year Record

India’s Pratika Rawal has made history by becoming the fastest batter to reach 500 runs in Women’s One Day Internationals (ODIs), achieving the milestone in just eight innings.

The top-order batter reached the landmark during a stellar knock of 78 against South Africa in the ongoing tri-series in Sri Lanka. With this feat, Rawal surpassed the long-standing record held by England great Charlotte Edwards, who had set the mark in nine innings back in 1997.

India went on to post a solid total of 276/6 in the first innings, thanks in large part to Rawal’s contribution.

Rawal’s achievement also places her second overall—across both men’s and women’s ODIs—in terms of fewest innings to 500 runs. Only South Africa’s Janneman Malan has reached the milestone faster, doing so in seven innings in men’s ODIs.

In her short but impactful ODI career so far, Rawal has already scored five fifties and a century, racking up 572 runs at a phenomenal average of 81.71 and a strike rate of 92.71.

She has already bagged three Player of the Match awards and a Player of the Series title, not counting the ongoing series—adding to her growing reputation as one of the brightest young stars in the game.

Looking ahead, Rawal is on track to challenge the record for the fastest to 1000 runs in Women’s ODIs. That record currently belongs to Australia’s Lindsay Reeler, who got there in 23 innings. Fellow Aussies Meg Lanning and Nicole Bolton are next at 25 innings, while Belinda Clark and South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt follow with 27 innings each.

Rawal’s remarkable rise shows no signs of slowing down.
