Phil Salt Takes on Wicketkeeping Duties as England Gears Up for T20Is Against West Indies; Jos Buttler Prepares for Captaincy Return

In a strategic move for England’s T20I series against the West Indies, Phil Salt will be stepping up as the primary wicketkeeper, even as team captain Jos Buttler makes his return from a calf injury. The five-match T20 series will kick off on November 10 in Barbados, following the ongoing ODI series, currently tied 1-1.

Jos Buttler, who has been absent from the ODI leg, is set to lead the T20I squad. With Buttler’s injury still fresh, the team has opted for Salt to handle the wicketkeeping, a role he hasn’t frequently played for England but one he’s keen to embrace. Salt acknowledged the rarity of his wicketkeeping opportunities with the team but shared his enthusiasm, saying,

I enjoy keeping. I feel like that’s where I offer most to the side.

Salt, known for his batting prowess, has kept wickets in 13 out of 59 matches for England Lions. The series will offer him a valuable chance to strengthen his skills behind the stumps in international cricket, as England looks to make a strong start in the Caribbean.

In preparation for his return, Buttler has already begun training, marking his comeback after England’s semi-final exit in the recent 2024 T20 World Cup. His leadership will be key as the team faces the West Indies in a packed Barbados stadium.
