The Peshawar Zalmi team has voiced dissatisfaction and raised concerns regarding the schedule for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) edition 9. Expressing disappointment with the administration’s decisions, the franchise particularly questions the allocation of only four matches in Rawalpindi and one match in Karachi.
According to franchise sources, the fundamental concern lies in the absence of events scheduled in Peshawar, and the team has strong reservations about both the schedule and the chosen venues. Peshawar Zalmi claims that they were not included in the decision-making process, and their input was not sought before the schedule’s release. The disappointment stems from the meager allocation of only four matches in Rawalpindi and a solitary match in Karachi.
Even before the schedule was officially unveiled, Peshawar Zalmi had reportedly requested three matches to be played near Peshawar, citing strong support in Rawalpindi and Karachi, where stadiums are consistently filled by enthusiastic fans.
Despite making subsequent requests to alter the schedule, specifically aiming to reduce the Lahore matches and increase the count in Rawalpindi and Karachi, the administration reportedly did not heed these concerns. The franchise informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) headquarters about their reservations, but no corrective action was taken.
The disappointment extends beyond just the team’s fans, as the commercial and marketing department of Peshawar Zalmi is facing challenges and reservations due to the current schedule.
Peshawar Zalmi, a prominent contributor to the promotion and popularity of the PSL, emphasizes that the PCB should consider the concerns of all franchises. The franchise demands a reconsideration of the schedule, urging for more matches to be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi. While the team confirms its participation in PSL 9, they emphasize that the protest will persist until their concerns are addressed.
