In a recent gathering of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Board of Governors in Lahore, the focus was squarely on boosting the buzz surrounding the upcoming ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Sources from the meeting disclosed concerns about the lack of anticipation for the league, despite its significant status in the country. Participants echoed sentiments about minimal advertising and promotional activities contributing to this subdued atmosphere.
Chairman Mohsin Naqvi echoed these sentiments, expressing agreement with the concerns raised. Upon investigating, it was revealed that the advertising budget had been slashed in a previous meeting as a cost-saving measure. Chairman Naqvi swiftly responded by increasing the promotional budget, emphasizing the necessity of creating a vibrant cricket ambiance. He emphasized the importance of banners, large boards, and extensive media campaigns to bolster the league’s visibility.
In addition to discussions about PSL 9, deliberations also encompassed Pakistan’s hosting of the Champions Trophy next year. Chairman Naqvi emphasized the board’s responsibility to ensure impeccable arrangements for the event to preempt any potential criticism. Further discussions regarding venue selections and other pertinent matters are slated for the near future.
Interestingly, Chairman Naqvi also expressed dissatisfaction with the state of his room at the PCB headquarters. Sources revealed that a special designer has been enlisted to revamp the room, with decoration work already underway to meet the chairman’s standards.
