The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced the end of Mohammad Wasim’s tenure as head coach of the Pakistan Women’s cricket team.

PCB officially sacks Pakistan women’s head coach after disastrous 2025 World Cup campaign

The decision follows Pakistan’s disappointing performance at the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, where they finished at the bottom of the eight-team table.

Mohammad Wasim had been appointed as head coach in June 2024. However, his time in charge saw a string of poor results, including Pakistan’s early exit from the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE and their failure to make an impact in major tournaments.

PCB ends Wasim’s tenure, search for new coach underway
According to a report by Geo Super, the PCB has already begun the process of appointing a new head coach for the national women’s team. The replacement for Mohammad Wasim is expected to be announced soon.

Wasim, a former Pakistan cricketer and ex-chief selector for the men’s team, also served as the batting coach for the women’s side. During his tenure, the team struggled across formats — failing to win the 2024 Women’s T20 Asia Cup, the 2024 T20 World Cup, and all matches in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.

Despite having significant influence over team selection and support staff appointments, Wasim couldn’t deliver consistent results, leaving Pakistan’s women’s cricket in a difficult spot.

Pakistan end 2025 World Cup winless
Pakistan Women concluded their World Cup campaign with four defeats and three no-results in seven matches. Playing most of their fixtures in Sri Lanka, they suffered a heavy 88-run loss against arch-rivals India in Colombo.

The team will now look to rebuild ahead of their next assignment — a tour of South Africa in February 2026, featuring three T20Is and three ODIs.
