Pat Cummins is ready to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season starting on March 22. The Australian captain, who secured a massive contract worth INR 20.5 crore in the recent auction, will be in charge of the Orange Army, according to a reports
After winning just four out of 14 matches, SRH had a tough time under Aiden Markram’s leadership during the IPL 2023 season. They ended up at the bottom of the points table. There’s been ongoing discussion about whether they should change captains or stick with Markram. Markram had previously led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to back-to-back titles in the SA20 League.
With the uncertainty cleared, Cummins, the Australian captain who triumphed in both the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship (WTC) in the same year, is ready to embrace leadership responsibilities for the Orange Army.
Under David Warner’s captaincy, SRH was one of the IPL’s most consistent teams a few years back. From 2016 to 2020, they made it to the playoffs every season, even winning the IPL in 2016. However, their fortunes took a turn for the worse afterward, finishing eighth, eighth, and 10th in the next three editions.
Cummins will have the responsibility to change the team’s fortunes, and he’ll have ample support, including Travis Head, to back him up. His debut match as SRH’s captain will be against his former team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, on March 23 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
