Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assured full support to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on the Champions Trophy hosting issue, emphasizing that self-respect should guide Pakistan’s approach. As patron-in-chief of the PCB, Sharif highlighted that the matter goes beyond finances and should reflect public sentiment.

India has refused to play its Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan, proposing a hybrid model where its games would be held at a neutral venue like Dubai. The ICC has reportedly agreed to this model for the Champions Trophy and other events until 2027.

During their meeting, Sharif praised the PCB’s stance, noting it aligns with the sentiments of Pakistanis. Naqvi briefed Sharif on recent developments but kept details private. According to sources, Naqvi sought the PM’s input on potential next steps, including tough decisions if India remains firm against the PCB’s proposed “fusion formula.” This proposal suggests mutual non-participation in ICC events hosted by each other’s countries if India declines to play in Pakistan.

The ICC headquarters in Dubai has been central to discussions on this formula as the PCB seeks a fair resolution.
