Pakistan on High Alert Over Terror Threat During 2025 Champions Trophy
Pakistan has been placed on high alert following intelligence reports of a potential terrorist attack during the ongoing 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. According to Pakistani security agencies, extremist groups are allegedly planning to target foreign visitors attending the tournament.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) fought hard for years to secure hosting rights for the prestigious event. However, due to India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan, the tournament was partially shifted to the UAE, where India’s matches are being played.
Increased Security Measures
Reports suggest that Pakistan’s Intelligence Bureau has warned security forces about threats from groups such as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and ISIS, who may attempt to kidnap foreign spectators. In response, security measures have been significantly ramped up across venues and key locations.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had already expressed concerns last year regarding Team India’s security in Pakistan. Due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, the BCCI ultimately declined to send the Indian team, leading the ICC and PCB to relocate India’s matches to Dubai.

Pakistan’s Return as an ICC Host
The 2025 Champions Trophy marks Pakistan’s first time hosting an ICC event in 29 years. The country had been largely deprived of international cricket throughout the 2010s after the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore.
Despite the challenges, Pakistan remains committed to successfully hosting the tournament, ensuring the safety of players, officials, and fans with heightened security protocols.
