Hobart Hurricanes stormed to their first-ever BBL title in spectacular fashion, chasing down a daunting target of 183 inside 15 overs with a stunning seven-wicket victory over Sydney Thunder at Bellerive Oval.
Mitchell Owen stole the spotlight with a jaw-dropping 108 off 42 balls, equaling the fastest century in BBL history, reaching the milestone in just 39 balls. His innings, featuring 11 towering sixes, left the crowd in Hobart roaring with delight as the Hurricanes cruised to their target with 35 balls to spare.
Scorecard:
- Hobart Hurricanes: 185/3 (Owen 108, Wade 32*)
- Sydney Thunder: 182/7 (Sangha 67, Warner 48, Ellis 3-23, Meredith 3-27)
Owen’s blitz overshadowed a valiant effort by Sydney Thunder’s Jason Sangha (67) and David Warner (48), who had earlier set the stage with a 97-run opening stand. However, Hurricanes’ bowlers Nathan Ellis (3/23) and Riley Meredith (3/27) fought back brilliantly to restrict the Thunder and set up a manageable chase.
