Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Thushara will miss the upcoming three-match T20 International series against India due to a finger injury sustained during training. The 29-year-old hurt his left thumb while fielding in practice on Wednesday. Despite being on his non-bowling arm, the injury is significant enough to sideline him for the series, which kicks off on Saturday. Dilshan Madushanka will step in as his replacement.
This injury is a major blow for Sri Lanka. Thushara had been in excellent form recently, emerging as the top wicket-taker for Sri Lanka during the T20 World Cup last month. He claimed eight wickets in three matches with an economy rate of 5.62, including a standout performance of 4/18.
Thushara’s absence adds to the team’s woes, following the exclusion of Dushmantha Chameera from the squad due to illness, with Asitha Fernando taking his place.
