No Promotion for DSP Harmanpreet Kaur; Punjab Government Announces Cash Reward for India Captain

Fresh from leading India to their maiden Women’s World Cup victory, Harmanpreet Kaur is set to be rewarded by the Punjab government. However, instead of an immediate promotion to Superintendent of Police (SP), the India captain will receive a cash prize.

No Promotion for DSP Harmanpreet Kaur; Punjab Government Announces Cash Reward for India Captain

Cash Rewards for Punjab Cricketers

The Punjab government has reportedly decided to award ₹1.5 crore each to the three state players who were part of the title-winning squad: Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol, and Amanjot Kaur.

In addition, Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur are likely to receive government job offers in recognition of their contribution to India’s historic ODI World Cup triumph.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s Promotion Status

Currently serving as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Harmanpreet will have to wait for the mandatory years of service before she becomes eligible for promotion to SP. Reports suggest that while the state is exploring options for a special honour, immediate promotion isn’t possible under existing service rules.

Interestingly, hockey star Manpreet Singh, also a DSP, has been waiting for his promotion to SP since 2021, despite earlier announcements.

Felicitation Ceremony

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is expected to felicitate the three players in a grand ceremony once Harmanpreet returns to Punjab. All arrangements for the event have reportedly been completed, with an official announcement expected soon.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s Police Career and Challenges

Harmanpreet’s career in the Punjab Police has seen its share of ups and downs. In 2018, she was demoted from DSP to constable over controversy regarding her graduation degree from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, which wasn’t UGC-recognised at the time.

She was reinstated as DSP in 2024 after completing her degree via distance education from Lovely Professional University. Despite these hurdles, Harmanpreet remains one of India’s most decorated cricketers and a true icon of women’s sport in the country.

Historic World Cup Triumph

Under her leadership, India defeated South Africa in the 2025 Women’s World Cup final at DY Patil Stadium, securing the nation’s first-ever Women’s World Cup title—a historic achievement celebrated across the country.

Harmanpreet Kaur, along with Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur, will now be officially recognised for their extraordinary contribution to Indian cricket, with the cash reward and upcoming felicitation ceremony marking a proud moment for Punjab and the nation.
