The match, which was reduced to a nine-overs-a-side contest due to rain, saw Nigar found guilty of breaching Article 2.2 of the International Cricket Council Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The rule relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings” during an international match.
The incident occurred during Bangladesh’s batting innings, when the skipper, after being dismissed, threw her bat onto the ground while walking off the field.
As a result, she was charged by the match officials and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC Match Referee Supriya Rani Das, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana, and fourth umpire Champa Chakma were all involved in laying the charge.
Since it was her first offence in a 24-month period, Nigar received one demerit point along with an official reprimand. Under ICC regulations, accumulation of four or more demerit points within 24 months leads to suspension points, which can eventually result in international bans depending on severity.
