Bangladesh assistant coach Nic Pothas has stepped down from his role, citing family reasons. Pothas, who joined the Bangladesh coaching staff in 2023, had a contract running until March 2026 but decided to resign ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025.
“Yes, his contract was until 2026, but he resigned due to family reasons,” confirmed BCB cricket operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees in a statement to Cricbuzz on Friday.
Pothas shared his thoughts on Facebook, reflecting on his time with Bangladesh Cricket:
“Like all good things, this too must come to an end. I’ve had an amazing time with some great people while with @bcb_tigers_official. We’ve broken many records, made history, and created incredible memories. Now it’s time to spend quality time at home and explore what the next chapter holds. I wish everyone at Bangladesh Cricket the very best for an exciting year ahead. I’ll miss you,” he wrote.
Pothas has had a distinguished coaching career spanning over a decade. He has served as head coach for Sri Lanka (2017-2018) and the West Indies (2018-2019), as well as taking on roles as assistant coach and fielding coach for various teams. Before joining Bangladesh, he worked as the wicketkeeping coach at Hampshire County Cricket Club.
