New Zealand’s top-order batter Daryl Mitchell has confirmed he’s fit and ready to take on India in their final Champions Trophy group match. Mitchell had to sit out Monday’s win over Bangladesh due to illness but is now back with the squad.
Both the Black Caps and India remain unbeaten and have already secured their spots in the semi-finals. Sunday’s clash in Dubai will determine who tops Group A and who they’ll face in the next round.
“Obviously, it was disappointing to miss the last game because I wasn’t feeling great,” Mitchell said. “But it’s good to be back with the team, out of the hotel room, and back in training. I’m really looking forward to the next match.
“It’s another opportunity to represent our country, and I’m just excited to get out there and play. It should be a great game on Sunday.”
In Mitchell’s absence, Rachin Ravindra stepped in at No. 3 and made the most of his opportunity, smashing a brilliant 112 against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi as the Black Caps secured their place in the knockouts.

With Mitchell back, coach Gary Stead now faces a selection headache, especially with the possibility of resting players carrying minor injuries ahead of the semi-finals.
For Mitchell, the team’s depth and ability to step up when needed is a major strength.
“We take a lot of pride in doing whatever the team needs in different situations,” he said. “I’m sure someone else will put their hand up over the next few games and help us get over the line.”
