New Zealand has announced their 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, with Mitchell Santner set to captain the team in his first major ICC event as skipper. The tournament, making its return after an eight-year gap, kicks off on February 19, with New Zealand opening against hosts Pakistan in Karachi.
Santner, who recently led New Zealand to white-ball series wins against Sri Lanka, will head a squad blending experienced veterans and promising newcomers. Kane Williamson and Tom Latham, both part of New Zealand’s 2017 Champions Trophy campaign, add stability, with Latham handling wicketkeeping duties.
The pace attack features first-time ICC event players Will O’Rourke, Ben Sears, and Nathan Smith, alongside seasoned quicks Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson. Ferguson, playing in his fifth ICC tournament, will have Jacob Duffy as a reserve, considering possible franchise cricket commitments.
Santner will also lead the spin department, supported by versatile all-rounders Michael Bracewell, Glenn Phillips, and Rachin Ravindra. The batting lineup is bolstered by Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, and Will Young, ensuring a balanced squad across all areas.
Expressing his confidence in the squad, Santner highlighted the mix of experience and fresh energy. “This is an exciting group, and it’s a great chance for some of the younger guys to step up on the big stage,” he said.
