Nahid Rana Unlikely to Receive NOC for Big Bash League Amid Bangladesh Commitments

Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana is unlikely to receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the upcoming Big Bash League, with the national team’s packed international schedule leaving little room for the 23-year-old pacer to join the Australian franchise tournament.

Nahid Rana Unlikely to Receive NOC for Big Bash League Amid Bangladesh Commitments

The BBL is scheduled to run from December 12 to January 26, overlapping with a crucial period in Bangladesh’s international calendar. Both the Adelaide Strikers and a Melbourne-based franchise have reportedly shown interest in signing Rana. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has yet to receive an official NOC application from the fast bowler.

A BCB official indicated that even if Rana submits a request, the chances of approval remain slim because of Bangladesh’s international commitments.

“Some BBL franchises are eager to secure Rana, but we have not received any official letter for NOC from him. If he submits it, the board will decide whether he will get the NOC, but chances are very slim considering our international commitments,” the official said, as reported by Cricbuzz.

Rana Returns from Injury

Rana recently recovered from a Grade-2 side strain that forced him to miss Bangladesh’s two-Test series against Australia. He resumed bowling during the week of September 8 as part of his rehabilitation, but the BCB is expected to monitor his fitness and workload closely.

His injury management is particularly important as Bangladesh look to gradually bring him back into competitive cricket.

“He just recovered from an injury and we need to keep an eye on that as well because his fitness and workload is one of our top priorities,” the source added.

As part of his controlled return, Rana will not participate in the Asian Games in September 2026. Bangladesh instead plan to bring him back into competitive action during their October 2026 series against Afghanistan in the UAE.

Packed Bangladesh Schedule Complicates BBL Move

Bangladesh have a demanding international calendar from October through December, further reducing the possibility of Rana receiving an NOC.

Following the Afghanistan series in the UAE, Bangladesh are scheduled to host the West Indies in a two-Test series in October-November. The series will also contribute to the ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Bangladesh will then travel to South Africa for a full multi-format tour comprising two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. The tour runs through November and December, directly overlapping with the start of the BBL on December 12.

With Rana still being carefully managed after his side strain and Bangladesh facing a busy international schedule, the BCB is unlikely to release him for franchise cricket at this stage.

The Melbourne-based franchise interested in Rana has not yet been officially identified, while the Adelaide Strikers are also understood to be monitoring the talented fast bowler.
