Shanto was chosen by Nafees as captain due to his strong character and aptitude for leadership. He said Shanto was selected for the captain’s post because of his steady play throughout the years.
Good thing about Shanto is he is always calm and he can maintain a balance in any situation. He consistently works on and off and knows his routine and I know he will deliver soon. He has the quality and proved it over the years by demonstrating his leadership qualities,” said Nafees.
During the recent tour to New Zealand, Shanto led the Tigers and guided them to a historic victory in the T20I and ODI formats on Kiwi soil. Bangladesh also drew the T20I series 1-1, winning the opening match by 5 wickets, marking their first T20I win in New Zealand.
Nafees emphasized the need for support from the team management and players for Shanto, considering the limited time available before the World Cup.
Four months is not enough time for Shanto. We must assist him. He’s shown great leadership skills and has worked with this team before. Bangladesh Cricket Board gave him the captaincy role because of his quality. But the upcoming World Cup will be challenging,” he said.
“Planning will be easier for any captain if he gets a settled team. I don’t think four months is a suitable time. He should be supported without putting any pressure on him,” he added.
