The 26-year-old fast bowler claimed 6 wickets for 55 runs, leading a disciplined Bangladesh bowling attack that dismissed Australia for just 198 in the first innings. It was Bangladesh’s best-ever Test bowling performance against Australia and played a major role in their first Test victory over the hosts.
Speaking after the match, Hasan credited the team’s preparation, planning and patience for the remarkable result.
“Before the match, in the practice session, we were doing our best every second and believed in ourselves without thinking of the outcome. We got some team plans with the coaches, watching videos, and that’s what we did on the ground. The bowlers were patient; they stuck to the line and length. Results came,” Hasan said.
The pacer, who was named Player of the Match, was also delighted by the significance of the victory for Bangladesh and its supporters.
“They will be very happy for me. My people will be celebrating,” Hasan added.
Bangladesh eventually chased down their target of 57 runs, losing just one wicket to secure a memorable nine-wicket victory and take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Hasan’s outstanding spell underlined Bangladesh’s growing confidence in Test cricket and their ability to challenge established teams away from home.
The victory also strengthened Bangladesh’s position in the 2025-27 World Test Championship, with the Tigers moving to fourth place with three wins from five matches and a points percentage of 66.67.
The second Test between Bangladesh and Australia is scheduled to begin in Mackay on August 22.
