Rahim became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to feature in 100 Test matches, joining an elite list of international wicketkeepers to reach the milestone.
The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman made his Test debut at the iconic Lord’s in May 2005 against England. Over his illustrious career, he has amassed 6,351 runs at an average of 38.02, including 12 centuries and 27 fifties. His highest score came against Zimbabwe in 2018, when he played a marathon 219 off 421 balls*, securing an innings-and-218-run victory for Bangladesh.
Rahim also captained the national side in 34 Tests between 2011 and 2017, registering 7 wins, 18 losses, and 9 draws. Behind the stumps, he accounted for 113 dismissals in 99 innings, including 98 catches and 15 stumpings.
Joining the Elite Wicketkeepers’ Club
Rahim becomes only the 8th wicketkeeper in Test history to reach 100 matches. Notably, legends like MS Dhoni and Adam Gilchrist fell short of the milestone by 10 and 4 Tests, respectively. The list of wicketkeepers with 100+ Tests (sorted by dismissals) includes:
- Mark Boucher – 147 Tests
- Ian Healy – 119 Tests
- Alec Stewart – 133 Tests
- Jonny Bairstow – 100 Tests
- Brendon McCullum – 101 Tests
- Kumar Sangakkara – 134 Tests
- Mushfiqur Rahim – 100* Tests
- AB de Villiers – 114 Tests
Looking Ahead
In the series opener in Sylhet, Rahim batted once, scoring 23(52) in Bangladesh’s dominant win. With Bangladesh batting first in Mirpur, Rahim now has a chance to join an even rarer club: scoring a century in his 100th Test, a feat achieved by only 11 players in the history of the format.
Mushfiqur Rahim’s 100th Test is not just a personal milestone—it is a proud moment for Bangladesh cricket and a testament to his resilience, longevity, and enduring excellence on the international stage.
