Mumbai Hand Debuts to Kamalini and Sisodia as They Opt to Bowl

Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and, following the tournament trend, chose to field first against Gujarat Giants in Vadodara. Chasing has been the preferred strategy this season, and Harmanpreet showed no hesitation in opting to bowl first.

Mumbai made two changes from their opening game against Delhi Capitals, handing debuts to top-order batter G Kamalini and left-arm spinner Parunika Sisodia. They replaced Jintimani Kalita and Saika Ishaque in the XI. Both Kamalini and Sisodia were part of India’s victorious squad in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Giants retained the same XI from their previous game, where they secured a win against UP Warriorz.

Harmanpreet emphasized the importance of the first six overs while bowling, aiming to capitalize on early conditions before the dew factor sets in. Gujarat captain Ashleigh Gardner admitted she would have also preferred to bowl first but remained confident that a 200-plus total could be defendable.

Mumbai Indians hold a dominant 4-0 record against Gujarat Giants in the WPL and will be eager to extend their streak while securing their first win of the season. They enter the match after a last-ball defeat against Delhi Capitals, a game marred by controversial run-out decisions.

On the other hand, Gujarat Giants have had a mixed start to the season, losing their opening game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru but bouncing back with a victory over UP Warriorz.

The match will be played on a fresh pitch.
