In a significant development, Mohsin Naqvi, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, has been designated as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, according to sources and local media reports emerging on Monday.
Reports also indicate that Naqvi is set to replace Zaka Ashraf on the PCB Governing Board, following Ashraf’s resignation.
Prime Minister’s nomination of Naqvi as the Patron-in-Chief of the PCB came in the wake of Ashraf stepping down. Additionally, plans to conduct elections for the PCB have been set in motion, scheduled to take place within the next two weeks.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the news broke, Naqvi confirmed his appointment and expressed his commitment to addressing the challenges facing Pakistan cricket.
“I will endeavor to resolve the issues impacting Pakistan cricket. Reforms in cricket are imperative at this juncture,” remarked Naqvi.
The official notification formalizing Naqvi’s appointment is expected to be issued today. Zaka Ashraf vacated the position of Chairman of the PCB Management Committee and resigned from the Board of Governors on January 19.
