India’s top fast bowler, Mohammed Shami, injured his ankle during the ODI World Cup 2023. After surgery, he began training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Although he started bowling again in July, the 34-year-old isn’t ready to return to professional cricket yet.

He is working on his fitness, but he doesn’t have a set return date. He mentioned he is not focusing on the upcoming series against New Zealand or Australia right now. Instead, he might play domestic cricket to assess his fitness before rejoining international matches.
“I am working hard to return soon because I’ve been out for a while. I want to ensure I’m fully fit and comfortable when I come back,” Shami said at the CAB annual awards.
Shami added, “I want to return stronger and won’t rush back to avoid risking another injury. If necessary, I’ll play domestic cricket to test my fitness. My priority is to be completely ready for any future challenges, no matter the opposition or format.”
