Mohammed Shami Joins LSG for IPL 2026, Ends Year-Long Stint with SRH

In a major move ahead of IPL 2026, India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami has been traded to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), ending his year-long association with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The 35-year-old is set to play under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy in the upcoming season.

According to Cricinfo, the deal was an all-cash arrangement between the two franchises. Shami, who was bought for ₹10 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction, will earn the same amount at LSG for 2026.

Shami Set to Reunite with Bharat Arun

LSG had a disappointing IPL 2025, finishing seventh and undertaking a significant squad overhaul. As part of their revamp, they roped in Bharat Arun to oversee talent development, aiming to strengthen their bowling unit.

Shami is set to reunite with Arun, under whom he has worked extensively while representing India. With past struggles in fitness and injuries, it will be intriguing to see how Arun utilises the experienced seamer in LSG’s revamped bowling lineup.

For context, Shami missed IPL 2024 due to a heel injury and had a tough IPL 2025, claiming just six wickets in nine innings at an expensive economy rate of 11.23.

Delhi Capitals in the Mix

Lucknow wasn’t the only team pursuing Shami; Delhi Capitals were also interested in signing the right-arm pacer for IPL 2026.

However, SRH had the final say on which offer to accept and ultimately chose LSG, finalising the move for the veteran bowler.
