In a major development, Australia’s star batter Mitchell Marsh is reportedly set to retire from the Sheffield Shield, bringing an end to his domestic red-ball career.

Mitchell Marsh to Retire from Sheffield Shield, Remains Available for Ashes Comeback
The 34-year-old, who is currently featuring in the Sheffield Shield, has struggled for runs this season, prompting his decision to step away from domestic cricket after the ongoing campaign.

Despite stepping back from the domestic scene, Marsh remains open to a return to international Test cricket. He has not played a Test for Australia since the BGT 2024 series, but with Australia facing challenges in the opener’s slot ahead of the 2nd Ashes Test, selectors had considered Marsh as an option. The batter has expressed his willingness to be available for a potential Ashes comeback, although his chances of being recalled remain uncertain.

Struggles in Domestic Cricket

Marsh has managed just 13 runs from two innings for Western Australia in the current Sheffield Shield season. His next appearance is scheduled for February, when Western Australia take on Tasmania at 8:00 am IST. However, with the remaining three Ashes Tests concluding by then, it is expected that Marsh may soon announce his retirement from red-ball cricket entirely.
