Mitchell Marsh Brushes Off Questions on Pakistan’s Potential Boycott of India T20 World Cup Match

In a major development, the Pakistan government confirmed on Sunday, February 1, that Salman Ali Agha’s team will not play their T20 World Cup 2026 clash against India, sparking widespread discussion across the cricketing world.

Mitchell Marsh Brushes Off Questions on Pakistan’s Potential Boycott of India T20 World Cup Match

During Australia’s ongoing three-match T20I series in Pakistan, a reporter seized the moment to ask Australian captain Mitchell Marsh for his reaction. After Australia’s 0-3 series defeat, Marsh faced questions about Pakistan’s boycott but chose to stay focused on his team’s preparations.

Marsh brushed off the query, saying he is concentrating on Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign. When asked about Bangladesh being barred from the tournament over security concerns, he maintained the same stance, emphasising that the Australians trust the authorities to ensure their safety.

The exchange went as follows:

Reporter: “Pakistan is going to boycott the Pakistan-India match on 15 February. What’s your point of view?”
Mitchell Marsh: “I don’t really have a comment on that at this point. We’re going to the World Cup to focus on what we’re doing, and we’ll let that stuff take care of itself.”

Reporter: “Bangladesh, an ICC full member, is not participating due to security concerns. How do you feel about that?”
Mitchell Marsh: “Same answer. We’re focused on the World Cup, and we trust the people in place to keep us safe. That’s all I’ll say.”

Australia, placed in Group B alongside Ireland, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and Oman, will begin their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on February 11 against Ireland in Colombo.
