The all-rounder was struck on the side of his helmet by a Nathan Ellis bouncer while attempting a pull shot in the 34th over. He immediately dropped to his knees and was attended to by Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan, with additional medical staff and the Australian team doctor also rushing in as a precaution.
Despite showing signs of discomfort and even vomiting after the impact, Mehidy continued batting and went on to remain unbeaten on 22, helping Bangladesh complete the chase. He was later taken to hospital for further assessment.
“Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a concussion during the match today. He continued to play after being assessed in the middle. We have sent him to the hospital to assess the rest of his signs and for general observation. He will be there for the next 24 hours,” said team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan.
Team officials confirmed that his condition remained stable, but he would stay under medical observation. Vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto stepped in during the post-match presentation in his absence.
In the match, Bangladesh bowled Australia out for 187 in a rain-affected 42-over innings before chasing a revised target of 192 in 41 overs with ease, thanks to key contributions from Shanto, Soumya Sarkar, and Towhid Hridoy.
The third and final ODI of the series will be played in Dhaka on Sunday, June 14.
