Mayank Agarwal has been given the all-clear to return to cricket after missing the last round (fifth) of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy due to a health emergency.
The Karnataka captain had an incident on a flight from Agartala, where he ingested a liquid he believed to be water, leading to vomiting and hospitalization. After being discharged, he underwent a check-up in Bengaluru and was advised two days of rest.
Agarwal returned as captain for the sixth-round southern derby against Tamil Nadu, confirming that he is “fit and fine with no major issues.” His return, along with Devdutt Padikkal’s, boosts an inexperienced Karnataka lineup.
In the previous round without Agarwal, Karnataka was led by Nikin Jose, who had a challenging outing. The team narrowly surpassed their target against Railways, placing them second in Group B behind Tamil Nadu. Agarwal has contributed significantly to the team’s performance this season with 310 runs in seven innings.
The Karnataka squad for the upcoming matches includes Mayank Agarwal (captain), Devdutt Padikkal, R Samarth, Nikin Jose, Manish Pandey, Sharath Srinivas (wk), Aneesh KV, Vyshak Vijayakumar, V Koushik, K Shashikumar, Sujay Sateri (wk), M Venkatesh, Vidwath Kaverappa, Kishan Bedare, Rohit Kumar, and Hardik Raj.
