Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings Preview:
Sunrisers Hyderabad( SRH ) is set to face Chennai Super Kings( CSK ) in their 27th match during the Indian Premier League( IPL ) 2026. This match is scheduled to take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday, April 18.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have had an inconsistent start to the Indian Premier League 2026 season. Out of their first five matches, they have managed to win two while losing three. Their victories came against Kolkata Knight Riders and a strong Rajasthan Royals side, with the latter being an impressive 57-run win in their most recent outing.
In that match against Rajasthan, Hyderabad produced a brilliant all-round performance. Batting first, they posted a massive 216/6, thanks largely to a sensational innings from captain Ishan Kishan, who smashed 91 runs off just 44 balls at a strike rate of over 200. He also received strong support from middle-order batters Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Salil Arora, helping SRH reach a daunting total.
The bowlers then completed the job in style. Debutants Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain stole the show with the ball. Hinge had a dream start to his IPL career, picking up three wickets in his first over, including dismissing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for a golden duck. Sakib also struck early in his opening over. At one point, Rajasthan Royals were struggling badly at 9 runs for 5 wickets, and Hyderabad eventually sealed the match by 57 runs, with both debutants finishing with four wickets each.
So far this season, Klaasen has been SRH’s leading run scorer with 224 runs, playing a key role in the middle overs. Known for his aggressive style against spin and solid technique against pace, he has been striking at over 140 while often stabilizing the innings. Captain Ishan Kishan is not far behind, having scored 213 runs, including his outstanding knock against Rajasthan.
However, the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head has not yet delivered the explosive starts the team usually expects. Sharma has scored 129 runs, while Head has managed only 120, leaving room for improvement at the top of the order despite the team’s otherwise strong batting lineup.
Hyderabad’s bowling attack has also faced challenges early in the season, mainly because their captain and pace spearhead Pat Cummins missed the start of the tournament due to injury recovery. Currently, Harsh Dubey and Eshan Malinga lead the wicket tally with five wickets each, while the impressive performances of debutants Hinge and Sakib have added more strength to the bowling unit. Shivang Kumar and experienced pacer Jaydev Unadkat have also picked up four wickets each. Meanwhile, Harshal Patel has struggled so far, remaining wicketless in three matches and even being dropped for the Rajasthan game, though his strong record against Chennai Super Kings could bring him back into consideration.
On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings had a tough start to the season under captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, losing their first three matches. However, the team has bounced back strongly by winning their last two games at home at MA Chidambaram Stadium, although they are still searching for their first away win after losing both previous matches on the road.
Their turnaround began with a 23-run victory over the Delhi Capitals, followed by another convincing win against Kolkata Knight Riders. In the KKR match, CSK posted 192 runs, with useful contributions from Sanju Samson (48 off 32), Ayush Mhatre (38 off 17), and Dewald Brevis (41 off 29).
The bowlers then ensured Kolkata never gained momentum. They struck early in the powerplay and eventually restricted KKR to 160 runs. Noor Ahmad was the standout performer with three wickets, while Anshul Kamboj added two more.
This season, CSK’s batting has largely depended on new signing Sanju Samson and young talent Ayush Mhatre. Captain Gaikwad has had a quiet start with just 63 runs in five innings, but Samson has stepped up brilliantly. After scoring a confidence-boosting unbeaten 115 against Delhi Capitals, he has looked in great form, accumulating 185 runs at a strike rate above 170.
Meanwhile, the 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre has impressed at number three, playing fearless cricket and keeping the scoreboard moving even when early wickets fall. He has scored 171 runs at a strike rate of 171, with his best performance being 59 runs against Delhi.
Sarfaraz Khan, one of the most talked-about buys in the IPL 2026 auction, has also contributed well with 122 runs in four innings at an excellent strike rate. However, Shivam Dube has struggled to find his rhythm, while Jamie Overton has helped fill the gap with both bat and ball. Veteran MS Dhoni is still recovering from injury and is expected to miss this match as well.
Overton has contributed 87 runs and five wickets, including a brilliant 4/18 against Delhi Capitals, which played a crucial role in CSK’s comeback win. However, the standout performer with the ball has been Anshul Kamboj, who currently leads the team’s wicket chart with 10 wickets, taking multiple wickets in almost every match.
Noor Ahmad now has four wickets after his three-wicket haul against KKR, while Khaleel Ahmed has had a disappointing season with only two wickets in five matches and has now been ruled out due to injury. His absence may open the door for bowlers like Mukesh Choudhary or Prashant Veer to step into the lineup.

SRH vs CSK Pitch Report:
The pitch at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad is generally considered balanced, offering opportunities for both batters and bowlers. It typically provides true bounce and good carry, allowing batters to play their shots confidently, while the quick outfield helps convert timing into boundaries. Fast bowlers may get some early assistance with movement off the surface, but this usually eases as the innings progresses. In the middle overs, the pitch tends to slow slightly, giving spinners a chance to make an impact with turn and variations. Dew can also play a role in evening matches, making it harder for bowlers to grip the ball and giving an edge to teams chasing. Overall, it is a fair wicket that encourages competitive cricket, with a slight advantage to batters under favorable conditions.
SRH vs CSK Weather Report:
The weather at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on April 18 around 07:30 PM local time is expected to be warm and mostly clear, providing good conditions for cricket. The temperature will likely be around 31–33°C at the start of the match, gradually cooling as the evening progresses. Skies should remain clear to partly cloudy, and the chance of rain is very low, meaning interruptions are unlikely. Humidity may stay moderate with a light breeze flowing across the ground. As the night advances, dew could appear in the second innings, which might make the ball slightly difficult to grip for bowlers and could assist the batting side while chasing. Overall, the weather looks favorable for a full and competitive match in the Indian Premier League.
