Melbourne Renegades vs Melbourne Stars Preview:

Melbourne Renegades( MR ) is set to face Melbourne Stars( MS ) in their 30th match during the Big Bash League 2025-26. This match is scheduled to take place at the Docklands Stadium on Saturday, January 10.

Will Sutherland’s side come into this match on the back of a confidence-boosting four-wicket win over the Perth Scorchers. That result completed back-to-back victories and has helped the team rediscover momentum. While the bowling unit delivered an excellent performance in the last outing, Sutherland will be hoping for a stronger contribution from the batters. Having already beaten the Melbourne Stars earlier in the season, the team will be keen to maintain a perfect record against them in this edition.

At the top of the order, Josh Brown and Tim Seifert provide plenty of firepower, and the side will be looking to them for a fast start. Mohammad Rizwan’s lack of runs has been a concern, and he will need to step up in the middle order alongside Jake Fraser-McGurk and Oliver Peake. Finishing duties will likely fall to Hassan Khan and Will Sutherland, from whom quick runs are expected late in the innings.

With the ball, Gurinder Sandhu was outstanding last time out, claiming four wickets, and he will again be tasked with striking early in tandem with Jason Behrendorff. Callum Stow and Sutherland were a little expensive, so the focus will be on tightening things up through the middle overs. Additional support will be required from Hassan Khan and Sam Elliott to keep the pressure on.

Marcus Stoinis, meanwhile, finds himself under pressure as his team struggles for form after three straight defeats. The bowlers have failed to deliver in two of those matches, while the batting collapsed in the loss to the Sydney Sixers, where they went down by six wickets. With qualification hopes hanging by a thread, this becomes a must-win game, and Stoinis will need to lead by example.

The Renegades will look for a solid start from Sam Harper and Thomas Rogers against a strong new-ball attack. In the middle order, Stoinis must hold the innings together and build partnerships with Campbell Kellaway and Blake Macdonald. The team will then hope for an explosive finish from Glenn Maxwell and Hilton Cartwright.

Bowling remains a concern, and early breakthroughs from Peter Siddle and Liam Hatcher are vital. Haris Rauf will be expected to make full use of the conditions and apply pressure in the middle overs alongside Stoinis. The likes of Maxwell, Mitchell Swepson, and Kellaway add variety to the attack and will need to make meaningful contributions if the team is to turn its fortunes around.

MR vs MS Pitch Report:

The pitch at Docklands Stadium, Melbourne is usually a good batting surface, offering even bounce and consistent pace throughout the match. Batters can play through the line with confidence, especially in the powerplay when the new ball comes on nicely to the bat. Fast bowlers may find some early movement under lights, but once the ball softens, scoring becomes easier and run rates tend to rise. Spinners do not get a great deal of turn, though those with good variations can still be effective in the middle overs. Overall, it is a balanced wicket with a slight advantage for batters, and totals in the range of 170–190 are often competitive in T20 cricket at this venue.

MR vs MS Weather Report:

Conditions at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne are expected to be largely favorable for cricket. The weather should be mild to warm, with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies and little threat of rain.
