Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are hanging onto their playoff hopes by a thread. With a record of five wins and six losses, and a net run rate of -0.469, they’re seventh on the table. After three straight defeats, they now face the steep task of not only winning their remaining games but doing it convincingly to stay in contention.

Despite an inconsistent season, there are a few bright spots. Nicholas Pooran has been the standout with the bat—410 runs in 11 innings at a blistering strike rate of 201. Mitchell Marsh has chipped in with 378 runs and four fifties, while Aiden Markram has found form late, scoring 348 runs at 147 SR.

The rest of the batting, however, has been underwhelming. Rishabh Pant has struggled for runs (128 from 10 games), and David Miller hasn’t looked settled. The middle order has lacked punch, although Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad have offered some valuable lower-order cameos.

With the ball, Avesh Khan has been LSG’s most consistent pacer, especially at the death. Digvesh Rathi has quietly impressed with 12 wickets and a tidy 8.09 economy. Ravi Bishnoi, though, has had a disappointing campaign, conceding over 10 runs per over.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have already been knocked out of playoff contention—and their three wins from 11 matches reflect a season full of missed opportunities. They’ll now be playing for pride and to finish on a positive note.

Their fortunes often hinge on Abhishek Sharma, who has shown flashes of brilliance with innings like his 141 against Punjab and 74 versus Gujarat. But consistency has been an issue. With Travis Head possibly sidelined due to a recent COVID diagnosis, the top order will be under more pressure.

In the middle, Heinrich Klaasen, Ishan Kishan, and Nitish Kumar have all shown glimpses but haven’t fired consistently. Aniket Verma has been a silver lining in the lower order—finishing games with a SR of 154 and some mature knocks under pressure.

Bowling has improved in recent matches. Pat Cummins has found his rhythm, while Harshal Patel continues to use his variations to good effect in the middle overs. Zeeshan Ansari and Jaydev Unadkat have quietly done their job, combining for 13 wickets and keeping things tight in the middle phase.
