England vs India Preview:
England( ENG ) is set to face India( IND ) in their 2nd Test match during the India tour of England, 2025. This match is scheduled to take place at the Edgbaston, Birmingham on Wednesday, July 2.
In true ‘BazBall’ fashion, England named their playing XI well in advance, confirming on Monday afternoon that Ben Stokes will once again lead an unchanged side for the second Test.
This means there’s still no Test return for Jofra Archer, whose last appearance in the format came back in February 2021. He’ll be watching from the sidelines, and while England are eager to bring him back into the fold, his comeback will have to wait a little longer.
Josh Tongue and skipper Ben Stokes were the standout bowlers in Leeds, each picking up four wickets in the first innings. England will also hope for a stronger showing from Chris Woakes, who will be playing at his home ground in Birmingham.
With the bat, Ben Duckett was the star in the first Test, but the rest of the top order looked in good touch too—a promising sign for the hosts and a potential headache for India.
On the other hand, it’s a quick turnaround for Indian captain Shubman Gill, who’ll need to rally his side after a frustrating defeat in Leeds—a match they were in control of for long periods.
India’s biggest concern was the lack of runs from the lower order, which may force a rethink in team composition, possibly adding more depth to the batting down the order to avoid another collapse like the one at Headingley.
The top order, however, looks solid. Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Gill, and Rishabh Pant all scored centuries in the first Test, and with players like Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair in the mix, there’s plenty of quality waiting to make an impact.
Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is likely to return with the series still alive, and spinner Kuldeep Yadav is expected to feature on what is expected to be a dry Edgbaston surface.
