Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals Preview:
Delhi Capitals( DC ) is set to face Rajasthan Royals( RR ) in their 62nd match during the Indian Premier League( IPL ) 2026. This match is scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, May 17.
Delhi Capitals’ season has taken a worrying turn after a bright start, and they now find themselves under real pressure in the playoff race. Their recent defeats have highlighted two major issues — frequent middle-order collapses against spin and an inability to recover after poor starts in the powerplay. Their loss to Kolkata Knight Riders perfectly reflected those struggles, as they slipped from a solid 74/2 to finish on 142/8, once again exposing their inconsistency.
Interestingly, Delhi have looked much more comfortable while chasing targets rather than setting them. In successful run chases, they have usually maintained a scoring rate between 8.5 and 9 runs per over, with players like Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs taking control during the middle overs. Against Mumbai Indians, DC bounced back brilliantly from 7/2 to chase down 163 in just 18.1 overs. Even their recent total of 216/7 against Punjab Kings came after a cautious start.
The powerplay, however, continues to be their biggest concern with the bat. Delhi have repeatedly lost early wickets this season, including a shocking collapse to 13/6 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier in the tournament. Those poor starts have often left the middle order with too much work to do.
With the ball, Delhi’s strength has largely come through their spinners in the middle overs. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel have done a solid job of controlling the game, while Mukesh Kumar and the pace attack have managed to strike early on several occasions. However, their death bowling remains a major weakness, especially on batting-friendly surfaces where they have leaked plenty of runs in the final overs.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals have been one of the most unpredictable sides this season. They began IPL 2026 strongly with aggressive batting at the top and a quality new-ball bowling attack, but their form has dipped sharply after losing five of their last seven matches. Their heavy defeat to Gujarat Titans once again exposed familiar issues — inconsistent death bowling and a middle order that still depends heavily on the top order for runs.
RR’s biggest strength remains their explosive powerplay batting. Yashasvi Jaiswal and teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi have consistently provided flying starts. Against Punjab Kings, Rajasthan smashed 84/1 in the powerplay while chasing 223, and earlier in the season they piled up 97 runs in the first six overs against RCB, their best powerplay performance so far.
Rajasthan have looked far more dangerous while chasing because of the attacking intent shown by their openers. During successful chases, RR have regularly scored at over 10 runs per over in the powerplay, setting the tone for the middle order. Players like Dhruv Jurel and Donovan Ferreira have also finished strongly in the death overs. Their unbeaten 77-run partnership against Punjab Kings was a perfect example of their finishing ability late in the innings.
On the bowling side, Rajasthan are at their best with the new ball. Jofra Archer has been among the top wicket-takers in the powerplay this season, using his pace effectively to trouble opposition batters, even though he has occasionally been expensive. The bigger issue for RR has been their death bowling. They conceded 72 runs in the final five overs against Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans also took them apart in the closing stages, with Archer alone giving away 46 runs in just three overs.
