In a revealing press conference, England opener Zak Crawley unveiled the team’s successful adoption of the ultra-aggressive ‘Bazball’ approach, crediting it for their improved performance. Crawley expressed that the aggressive mindset aligns more naturally with their playing style compared to the traditional “take-your-time” strategy. Despite a 190-run first innings deficit, England’s fighting spirit led to a stunning 28-run victory over India in the opening Test in Hyderabad. The team has maintained an unbeaten Test record since embracing ‘Bazball’ under the guidance of New Zealand coach Brendon McCullum.

‘Bazball’ comes quite naturally as a lot of our team plays more aggressively. The mindset when I first came to England was to take your time and build a long innings, and I didn’t think that came naturally to me and a few others,

Crawley stated during the press conference.

Crawley highlighted the team’s preference for the aggressive regime, asserting that many players perform better under this approach. England’s success with ‘Bazball’ has garnered attention, especially considering their recent victory over India, who were considered pre-series favorites.

Addressing the absence of Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul from the Indian side, Crawley emphasized that England remains focused on their own performance and planning, not letting external factors distract them.

“There are two very good players missing out, but I’m sure looking at their depth, they have two very good players coming in. So, that won’t change anything for us too much,” Crawley commented on India’s lineup changes.

Regarding the nature of the wickets for the second Test, Crawley expressed confidence in England’s ability to adapt. He acknowledged India’s strength in their own conditions but emphasized sticking to their own strategies.

Reflecting on the team’s training camp in Abu Dhabi, Crawley dismissed criticism about the timing of their arrival in India. He highlighted the benefits of the camp, particularly the preparation on turning wickets.

In terms of batting strategy, Crawley explained the team’s inclination towards sweep shots against spinners, considering it an effective option to counter spin. He specifically mentioned the reverse sweep as a natural choice for the team, given the field placement.

Praising Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah, Crawley acknowledged his incredible skills, especially in the challenging conditions of India. He commended Bumrah’s ability to adjust his length and delivery style to suit the conditions.

As England looks ahead to the upcoming tests, Crawley expressed confidence in their approach, emphasizing the need to stick to what they do well and adapt to the conditions.
