Although he has not officially retired, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has not been in the national team for the last two years.
However, he is playing regularly in the Bangladesh Premier League, Bangabandhu T20 Cup or Dhaka Premier League. He is now preparing to play for Legends of Rupganj in the current DPL as well.
The former captain recently went to India to undergo surgery on a waist disc problem. He took his appointment at Apollo Hospital in Chennai. However, on the advice of doctors there, he returned home without the operation.
Mashrafe explained why he did not perform the operation.
Speaking to the media after the team practice in Rupganj on Thursday, the most successful Bangladesh captain said, “I have been treated (from India). Surgery is a matter of long time. Adjust as much time as you can play at the moment. Then there’s a big break, there’s no domestic cricket. If you had the surgery now, you might have missed domestic cricket. It will take about nine months to get fit. And I don’t think I have any point in returning to the field after nine months of rehab after surgery. Since the national team has no focus, what else can be as far away from surgery as possible. Now manage as much as you can play and what else. I really don’t have a goal. I’ve said it before. I’m just playing out of love. ’
The ‘Narail Xpes’ star said, “There are a lot of players in the Dhaka League who may be playing for 10-15 years. Their goal is no longer the other way around. Some play for bread, some play for good. It’s a pleasure for them to play, so it’s a game. For me, the game is always a pleasure. Let’s see how long I can play. ’
