Sylhet Strikers faced an unexpected shift in leadership as their captain, Mashrafe bin Mortaza, has opted to take a hiatus from the ongoing 10th Bangladesh Premier League T20. The decision stems from his commitment to fulfill responsibilities as a Whip in Parliament.

According to a statement released by the franchise, Mashrafe remains open to rejoining the Strikers during the season, provided there are windows available amid his political engagements. In his absence, the mantle of captaincy will be taken up by the team’s vice-captain, Mohammad Mithun, as outlined in the press release.

Throughout the initial phase of the season, the veteran cricketer led the Strikers in all five games, unfortunately ending in defeat and placing the team at the bottom of the seven-team table. Concerns have also been raised regarding Mashrafe’s personal form and fitness, with his batting performance faltering and his bowling role reduced to sporadic contributions.
