Coming in at No. 3, Labuschagne looked composed from the outset. After Travis Head fell for 33, he steadied the innings and forged a crucial partnership with Jake Weatherald, helping Australia regain control. Soon after reaching the 1,000-run landmark, Labuschagne notched another fifty—his 25th in Test cricket and second consecutive fifty, following his knock in Perth earlier in the series.

England’s Innings Overview

Earlier, England won the toss and elected to bat. Mitchell Starc struck immediately, dismissing an opener in the first over. England slipped to 5/2 before Joe Root and Zak Crawley (76) steadied the innings with a 117-run partnership. After Crawley’s dismissal post-tea, wickets tumbled again. Starc shone with 6/75, marking his sixth five-wicket haul in Day-Night Tests.

Despite the collapse, Joe Root scored an unbeaten 138, his 40th Test century, while late support from Jofra Archer added 38 runs. Their 10th-wicket stand of 61 runs was finally ended by a stunning diving catch from Labuschagne, helping Australia wrap up England’s innings at 334.

By drinks on Day 2, Australia were well placed at 175/2, with Labuschagne firmly anchoring the innings and continuing his remarkable form.
