Major Issues on the Table for Today’s BCB Meeting

Minhajul Abedin, a member of the selection committee since 2011, became chief selector in 2016. An anonymous BCB official mentioned a potential change in the selection panel, supported by many board members. The panel’s tenure officially ended on December 31, 2023, with extensions granted.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed the discussion about the selection panel’s future, citing the need for extensions to continue the selection process.

The assessment of the World Cup performance is ongoing, crucial for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The committee’s report will be presented in the meeting.

BCB formed a committee for coach appointments, and the process may conclude in the next few days. Approval from the board will be sought. Coach appointments and match fee increments are on the agenda.

The captaincy of the national team in three formats, held by Shakib Al Hasan, will be discussed. Shakib’s T20I captaincy was expected until the 2022 Australia World Cup, while no tenure was set for his Test captaincy. The BCB CEO acknowledged the captaincy issue on the agenda, stating no official approach had been received.

Cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus stated there’s no captaincy issue on the agenda, but it can be discussed if any member brings it up.
