The series marks Bangladesh’s first Test outing since the recent captaincy shake-up, which ended with Najmul Hossain Shanto confirmed to continue as Test captain for the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.
Mahmudul, who averages 22.79 in Tests, was dropped for the Sri Lanka series earlier this year but has forced his way back after scoring a brilliant century in the National Cricket League.
From the previous Test squad, Nayeem Hasan, Mahidul Islam, and Anamul Haque have been left out. Meanwhile, Hasan Murad, the uncapped left-arm spinner, has been retained in the 14-member squad.
The first Test will be held in Sylhet from November 11, followed by the second Test starting November 19 in Dhaka. After the Test series, the two sides will also contest three T20Is.
