Liton Das smashes the fastest BPL century by a Bangladeshi

Liton Das made a stunning statement after being dropped from Bangladesh’s provisional 15-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, smashing his maiden T20 century for Dhaka Capitals against Duranta Rajshahi in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Liton’s blistering knock came off just 44 balls, setting a record for the fastest century by a Bangladeshi batter in BPL history and the second-fastest overall. This innings was particularly significant as Liton had been sidelined from the national team due to a poor run in ODIs last year.

Opening the innings alongside Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Liton unleashed a destructive display of batting. Tanzid also starred with a magnificent 108 off 64 balls, including six fours and eight sixes. The duo shattered the record for the highest partnership in BPL history, amassing an unbeaten stand of 254 runs. They surpassed the previous record of 201 runs, set by Chris Gayle and Brendan McCullum for Rangpur Riders in 2017.

Liton, who had signaled a return to form with a 73 off 43 balls in his previous match against Sylhet Strikers, was at his peak against Rajshahi. His innings featured eight fours and seven massive sixes, with his century coming inside the 16th over.

He carried his bat through the innings, finishing unbeaten on 125 off just 55 balls, sealing the record for the highest-ever team total in BPL history. Dhaka Capitals posted a staggering 254-1, marking a day to remember for Liton Das and his team.
