All teams must submit their list of retained players before November 15, and if the reports are accurate, Klaasen’s name might be missing from SRH’s retention list this time.
Klaasen could be one of SRH’s biggest releases
SRH finished as runners-up in IPL 2024 but endured a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign, failing to qualify for the playoffs under Pat Cummins’ leadership. With just six wins from fourteen matches, the team is expected to make major changes in its squad to bounce back stronger next season.
Interestingly, Klaasen wasn’t among SRH’s worst performers. The explosive South African batter scored 487 runs in 13 innings at an impressive average of 44.27 and a strike rate of 172.70. However, his dip in form in other tournaments, like Major League Cricket and The Hundred—where he managed only 293 runs at an average of 19.53—has reportedly raised concerns within the SRH camp.
As per The Times of India (TOI), Klaasen’s hefty price tag of INR 23 crore is a key factor behind SRH’s decision to consider releasing him. The report also suggests that SRH might attempt to buy him back in the auction at a more affordable price of around INR 15 crore.
“There are strong murmurs, and it could be a smart move by SRH if they go that route,” a source told TOI. “Having ₹23 crore more in the purse would give them flexibility to strengthen their bowling attack and fix their middle order. They might even have a good chance to get Klaasen back for around ₹15 crore, leaving enough balance for other quality signings.”
Since joining SRH, Klaasen has played 42 matches, amassing 1,414 runs at a superb average of 44.19 and a strike rate of 173.50. Should he be released, the South African power-hitter will undoubtedly be one of the most sought-after players in the upcoming IPL 2026 mini-auction.
