KL Rahul Poised for IPL 2024 Comeback, Aiming to Shine as Wicket-Keeper Batsman

An upcoming report suggests that KL Rahul is gearing up for a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and is determined to establish himself as a formidable wicket-keeper batter ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. The cricketer sustained a quadriceps injury during the first Test match against England, which led to his withdrawal from the remainder of the five-match series. Following his injury, he sought medical consultation in London and has since returned to India, undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

According to sources cited by Times of India, Rahul’s recovery is progressing well, and he is expected to receive a Return to Play certificate from the NCA shortly. Eager to showcase his skills in the IPL, Rahul, who represents Lucknow Super Giants, eyes a spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad as a wicket-keeper batsman. His anticipated return to action is scheduled for the clash against Rajasthan Royals on March 24.

In another development, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) announced that Australian cricketer Pat Cummins, the World Cup-winning captain, will lead the team in the upcoming IPL season. Cummins, aged 30, was acquired by SRH for a staggering Rs 20.50 crore in the IPL auctions, making him the second-costliest player in the event’s history.

Replacing South African cricketer Aiden Markram as the skipper, Cummins is set to embark on his maiden captaincy stint in the IPL. Despite lacking prior leadership experience in top-flight T20 cricket, Cummins boasts an illustrious career, having led the Australian team to victory in the World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup.

With 42 IPL matches under his belt, Cummins has exhibited his prowess, securing 45 wickets with notable performances. Additionally, he has contributed with the bat, amassing 379 runs at an average of 18.95, underscoring his versatility as an all-rounder in the T20 format.
