“After 23 years, I’ve decided to retire. It’s an honor to play for Kenya,” Obua said. “I want to thank my teammates and family for their support.. Now, I plan to focus on coaching cricket in Kenya.”

While known for his batting later in his career, Obuya was also a skilled leg-spinner in his younger days. His highlight was during the 2003 Cricket World Cup when he took 5 wickets for 24 runs against Sri Lanka, including key players like Aravinda de Silva and Kumar Sangakkara.

The win helped Kenya advance to the Super Six stage of the tournament, making them the only non-Test playing nation. Obuya’s best One Day International (ODI) innings was an unbeaten 98 runs against Australia in the 2011 World Cup.

He also took 60 wickets for the country. Both his brothers, Kennedy Obuya and David Obuya, also played for Kenya internationally.
