Jay Shah’s Replacement Not on BCCI’s Agenda as Apex Council Prepares for Key Meeting

In a surprising turn of events, the BCCI Apex Council’s meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, will not include the appointment of a successor to outgoing secretary Jay Shah, despite earlier reports suggesting othe/rw ise. Instead, the meeting will focus on several other key issues related to the Board’s operations.

Jay Shah to Remain BCCI Secretary for Now

Though Shah is set to take over as ICC Chairman from December 1, he will continue in his role as BCCI Secretary through the upcoming 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for later this month in Bengaluru. The Apex Council meeting, the final one before the AGM, will not include any discussions on the nomination process for his replacement, as it does not appear among the eight agenda items.

Byju’s Payment Dispute on the Agenda

One of the major items up for discussion is the ongoing payment dispute with Byju’s, the Board’s former title sponsor. The Bengaluru-based edtech company, which signed a jersey sponsorship deal in 2019 for three years, extended for a fourth year, still owes dues from October 2022 to March 2023. Despite making payments until September 2022, the unresolved financial issues remain a point of contention.

New National Cricket Academy and Other Projects

The inauguration of the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) on the outskirts of Bengaluru will also be addressed. The state-of-the-art facility will replace the current NCA at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which has been its base for over two decades. Additionally, the council will discuss renovations for the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai and developments in the North East cricketing infrastructure.

As the BCCI gears up for its AGM, these agenda items reflect the Board’s priorities, while the decision on Shah’s replacement remains on hold for now.
