India won the first Test against Lanka by an innings and 222 runs. Sri Lanka lost the pink-ball Test at the Chinnaswamy by 238 runs. After the T20I, Rohit Sharma was also successful in winning the Test series for the visitors. The record was set by Ravichandran Ashwin and Rishabh Pant. However, Bumrah surprised the world by picking up five wickets for the eighth time in a Test match. Bumrah took five wickets for 24 runs in karunaratne’s first innings. Sri Lanka’s innings was bowled out for just 109 runs by an Indian pace storm. Although he took five wickets in an innings for the eighth time in his 29 Test career, this was the first time on home soil that such an example was special for Bumrah. Only Kapil Dev had this feat.
But not only kapil dev’s record has been touched, but the Indian pacer has set another unique example. Bumrah is the first Indian bowler to take five wickets in a Test match on all five continents. Bumrah took 5 for 54 in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2018. In the same year, he took 5 wickets for 85 runs in Nottingham, England. Bumrah picked up 5 for 33 against Australia in Melbourne the following year. In the same year, against the West Indies, he took 5 for 7 and 6 for 27.
He became the fourth bowler in the world of cricket to set this rare record. Earlier, Graham McKenzie, Jason Gillespie and Dale Steyn have taken five wickets in five continents. Today, March 15, marks Bumrah’s first wedding anniversary. The second Test was wrapped up in two and a half days. So he could have celebrated his success with his wife Sanjana. But for now, Sanjana is busy hosting the Women’s World Cup and she is not getting a chance for the Indian star pacer.
