James Foster Set to Join Chennai Super Kings as Fielding Coach for Indian Premier League 2026

Former England wicketkeeper-batter James Foster is set to join the coaching staff of Chennai Super Kings for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 season. The 45-year-old will take on the role of fielding coach under head coach Stephen Fleming as the franchise looks to rebuild after a disappointing campaign last year.

Foster, who previously worked as the fielding coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, is expected to join the CSK setup later this month. During his playing career, the former wicketkeeper represented England cricket team in seven Tests, 11 ODIs and five T20Is between 2001 and 2009.

Apart from his stint with Kolkata Knight Riders, Foster has also been involved with several franchise teams around the world, including Desert Vipers, Northern Superchargers and Peshawar Zalmi.

“We have been looking for a fielding coach. I am hopeful he will join us,” said Kasi Viswanathan, CEO of the Super Kings franchise, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The CSK support staff already includes batting coach Mike Hussey, bowling coach Eric Simons, assistant bowling coach Sridharan Sriram and fielding coach Rajiv Kumar. Russell Radhakrishnan continues to serve as the team manager.

Meanwhile, CSK have already begun their pre-season camp for Indian players at the franchise’s high-performance centre. Several domestic players, including veteran captain MS Dhoni and youngster Ayush Mhatre, are currently attending the camp.

Players such as Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, who are currently with the national team, are expected to join later, while Shreyas Gopal will link up with the squad after completing his Ranji Trophy commitments.

The five-time IPL champions endured a tough season last year, finishing at the bottom of the table with just four wins from 14 matches. In a bid to bounce back strongly, CSK recently pulled off a blockbuster trade with Rajasthan Royals. In a surprise swap deal, the franchise traded Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in exchange for Samson, who recently struck a match-winning unbeaten 97 against West Indies cricket team to help India national cricket team reach the semi-finals.
