In a contentious turn of events during the Pakistan Super League’s ninth season, the match between Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United became embroiled in controversy due to a Decision Review System (DRS) ruling.
The pivotal moment occurred during Gladiators’ pursuit of victory when skipper Rilee Rossouw attempted a sweep shot off Agha Salman on the last ball of the 11th over. Initially deemed out LBW by the on-field umpires, the decision was overturned upon review by the DRS technology, revealing that the ball had narrowly missed the stumps.
After the match, Islamabad United’s captain, Shadab Khan, voiced his frustration with the DRS technology, holding it responsible for their loss.
“In my view, the technology failed us in this defeat. There was a clear discrepancy between what we saw on the field and the outcome of the review, particularly in the case of Rossouw’s dismissal. Throughout my bowling spell as a leg spinner, I observed minimal turn. However, the review indicated an impact outside off and further spin away. Such errors should not occur in a prestigious tournament like this,” remarked Shadab.
It’s noteworthy that despite the controversy, Quetta Gladiators emerged victorious by three wickets, securing their third win of the tournament and joining Multan Sultans as one of the two teams with three victories.
